Future Mad Gringos of America

Mad Gringo has seen the future of our nation.

And they were wrapped in Mad Gringo Tees.

Mginbc

The report on these fine gentlemen is the day started with a quick picture on a beautiful fall Boston afternoon - which was followed by a series of naps - an evening contemplating Boston's myriad of activities - a late night discussion on how that Human Regurgitator first figured out that he could swallow a lightbulb - some shut eye - and then a late morning bite at Johnny's Luncheonette.

Mad Gringo was feeling a twinge of envy.

Until he found out that they had to go to class. Almost every day.

At least they don't have to wear neckties.

Tropical Drinks for Halloween

Happy Halloween from Mad Gringo.

Mad Gringo knows you've been scratching your head all weekend trying to come up with the right drink to keep you busy while the little ones ring your doorbell over, and over, and over again.

I have it for you.

The Zombie.

Made famous by Don "The Beachcomber" Beach in the late 30s and kept secret by putting ingredients into bottles and numbering them for the bartenders, the Zombie was built for the season. The "mender of broken dreams."

Beachbum Berry (whose book Mad Gringo featured here) has tried to re-create the Zombie the way it was put together in the first place - through trial and error. Ahh yes, process first.

I've copied his WSJ recipe here for you to enjoy today. Happy Halloween!

You'll need:
1 oz fresh lime juice
1 oz fresh lemon juice
1 oz pineapple juice
1 oz passion fruit syrup
1 oz white rum
1 oz gold rum
1 oz 151-proof Demerara rum
1 tsp brown sugar
1 dash Angostura

Muddle the brown sugar in the citrus until it is dissolved, then shake all the ingredients with plenty of crushed ice. Pour, without straining, into a tall highball glass and garnish with a sprig of mint.

Just remember, like the old Beachcomber himself would say - don't even think about a third one.

Neckties and Google

Google's mantra is "do no evil", right? Mad Gringo thought so. Knowing that it's not suprising that we'd find one of the Google lawyers going after the necktie in the Financial Times:

Neckties limit creativity. I love it.

Now, if I could just get rid of this little paunch . . .

Mad Gringos in the half pipe

UFB is sporting a Mad Gringo Mustard Tee in this short video of him dropping in for a run.
(don't worry - no Prince music in this one)

If only Mad Gringo knew what the right skateboard terms were he could sound impressive.

All I know is that UFB is "old skool stylie".

Drop that one on the teens in your life and watch the eyes roll!

Mad Gringos South of the Border

Mad Gringos in Mexico? Say it isn't so!

It looks like Mad Esteban and Mad Roberto were prowling the mean streets of Cancun when they bumped into a bachelorette party.

I had no idea they had a talent for baloon tying.

Stevenrobcancun

I've said it before, but those guys make my shirts look good. That's the Bush Mon (referring to the shirt, of course) and the Exotic Sunset parading across your screen.

Work wasn't on their mind. But if it was, the Office Rambo probably removed it.

Stevenrobcancun2

I need one of those around here. Office Rambo!

The fun, the sun . . . ah Mexico.

Thanks for the pics!

Where will your Mad Gringo go? Let me know!

Hasselhoff would look good in a sarong

Mad Gringo had no idea that a simple picture of Tom Selleck would lead to this.

1best_picture_ever

Titled simply "The Best Picture Ever", it doesn't immediately bring the beach to mind.

But I feel better about life.

The site is called The Official David Hasselhoff Site of Worship.

They also give us this:

Plane_in_hand

Yes.

It's our very own Hasselhoff Flyer kit. All we need is a color printer and the .pdf from this link:

http://www.knight-foundation.com/hoffplane.html

Wonder what it would take to get a Go Slow shirt on DH?

If you have any ideas let me know.

Thanks to IslandGirl for the laugh!

Enjoy your flight time. Go slow.

Vacation Countdown Widget

Magnum (Pic from Wilson Miner)

Mad Gringo would love a life where all I have to connect me to the outside world is Javier at the local cantina on my twice weekly foray into la ciudad.

Until that time I wander in and out of consciousness and through the internet hoping to find some gems for you, my dear readers.

One trend that I've been noticing are widgets. Little programs that run on a website that are geared for a specific task. People have shopping widgets that allow you to put in preferences and it recommends a product or a weather widget or a flight tracker widget or a "today in history" widget - you get the picture. Something fun that you can personalize.

Mad Gringo wanted to get into this thing they call "2007" so he batted some ideas around for a little program that you would find some value in. Music? Webcams? Drink suggestions? I had to swat the ideas away like flies. Too much to think about. I felt a twinge of anxiousness and thought "I need a vacation."

That was it.

Vacation. I love vacation and I love that feelling once you've committed to a time and destination. Heck, I plan my vacations better than I plan my day. That settled it. Mad Gringo was making a Vacation Countdown Widget. Here is a sneak peek at what it will look like.

Revisedvacation
It's simple. It's dumb. It's a widget.

You put in the last day you're working and every time you come to Mad Gringo's blog or site you can see a visual representation of your future holiday. If you have a blog of your own or one of those MySpace/Facebook pages you'll be able to use it on those too. No software to download, no hog on resources.

It's cool.

The big question. What should happen when it reaches zero?

We'll tackle that another day.

Look for the widget to launch around Nov 1.

So, why is Magnum up top? Because it's almost Halloween!

Sarongs and power

Dot_gogosarong (Dorothy Lamour and Gogo)

Mad Gringo knows the power of sarongs.

Look at this: http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7008887806

Mayanmar's superstitious generals say they lose power when touching a woman's panties or sarong so  Lanna Action for Burma started a "Panties for Peace" campaign.

I know the feeling.

October Stop the Madness Sale

THE SALE HAS ENDED. SUBSCRIBE TO THE NEWSLETTER FOR FUTURE SPECIAL OFFERS.

(from my newsletter)

It's sale time.

It all started when I read this from Jim Six at NJ.com.

"The neck-tie's recent popularity has me fit to be tied!"

Jim's right. These kids who want to bring the necktie back don't have any sense of history. Gallup just said that we had taken the number of men wearing neckties down to 6% of the working population. 6%!?! We're almost there!

Don't they know how long I've been fighting for this??

Well. . .Mad Gringo will not sit idly. Not for long, anyway.

I'm having a sale.

Stopthemadnesssale

It runs officially from October 22-26. 20% off anything in the store.

Anything.

As a Mad Gringo Newsletter subscriber you and any of your friends can start using the secret code today.

381AC64876

To make this work, put a bunch of items into the cart. (A "bunch" to me is like 6 or 7 things) When you're in the cart, you should see a link that says "Add a Promotional Code". If you click that link, a box appears and that's where you put the code.

The entire site will be plastered with that code in a week, but I wanted you all to have first crack at the inventory. Tell your friends.

We have to stop this tie nonsense today.

Go slow.
