Mad Gringo would love a life where all I have to connect me to the outside world is Javier at the local cantina on my twice weekly foray into la ciudad.
Until that time I wander in and out of consciousness and through the internet hoping to find some gems for you, my dear readers.
One trend that I've been noticing are widgets. Little programs that run on a website that are geared for a specific task. People have shopping widgets that allow you to put in preferences and it recommends a product or a weather widget or a flight tracker widget or a "today in history" widget - you get the picture. Something fun that you can personalize.
Mad Gringo wanted to get into this thing they call "2007" so he batted some ideas around for a little program that you would find some value in. Music? Webcams? Drink suggestions? I had to swat the ideas away like flies. Too much to think about. I felt a twinge of anxiousness and thought "I need a vacation."
That was it.
Vacation. I love vacation and I love that feelling once you've committed to a time and destination. Heck, I plan my vacations better than I plan my day. That settled it. Mad Gringo was making a Vacation Countdown Widget. Here is a sneak peek at what it will look like.
It's simple. It's dumb. It's a widget.
You put in the last day you're working and every time you come to Mad Gringo's blog or site you can see a visual representation of your future holiday. If you have a blog of your own or one of those MySpace/Facebook pages you'll be able to use it on those too. No software to download, no hog on resources.
It's cool.
The big question. What should happen when it reaches zero?
We'll tackle that another day.
Look for the widget to launch around Nov 1.
So, why is Magnum up top? Because it's almost Halloween!
Go slow.
