Hawaiian Shirts and Stinky Feet

Stinky Feet?

Well, technically it's Mr. Stinky Feet the "Kid Rocker".

Alohashirtstinkydd

Jim Cosgrove blew into the big island of Omahahu and put on a show at the Dundee Day street festival. In an informal survey of a 7 year old boy, the consensus was that Mr. Stinky Feet's songs were "really good".

If you look closely you can see Mr Stinky Feet wearing the Bula Blue Go Slow Hawaiian Shirt.

Mad Gringo was around but just missed having his picture taken with Mad Jim Cosgrove.

You can hear Mr. Stinky Feet singing "Mele Kalikimaka" here. Enjoy!

Mad Mark serenading Mad Gringo patrons on his ukulele. Mad Mark is quite the talent and is following his inner mad gringo and ditched the ties to work in music! Love it!

Read a little about Mark from this ukulele blog and this article in the Bellevue Leader newspaper. (subscription required) See pictures of him in action here too.

Mad Gringo likes ukuleles.

Mad Greg stopped by to show off his Hawaiian Shirt - the Vanuatu Hibiscus Go Slow shirt. He tells Mad Gringo that he's never met an Irish Whiskey he didn't like.

MG had to admit that he knew that. Found out the hard way. Another apple juice, UFB?

And then there was Mad Esteban.

With Mad Gringo that week on the beach in Mexico, he shakes his CPA head whenever neckties come up.

Modeling the Mad Gringo tee in Mustard, he makes that shirt look good.

Mad Gringo is off this weekend to Kent Island, MD for the Kent Island Outrigger Canoe Relays. Stop by and visit if you're in the area. First one's on me.

No, they don't wear Tropcial Shirts

This in from Mad Jen:

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/08/23/somali.pirates.ap/index.html

Seems that the Jolly Roger still flies in some parts of the world. 80 days as a hostage? Unbelievable.

Mad Gringo has confirmed that Go Slow Tropical Shirts were not under the fatigues.

My pirates would be eternally stuck in the "planning" stage. Just watch out after the rum runs dry.

Tropical Shirts save lives

Foot_surgery
Mad Gringo has been running around visiting street fairs and trade shows as summer draws to a close.

And possibly saving lives.

Yes, saving lives.

Check out this note from Mad Russ who was in Cancun before Hurricane dean came blowing through:

Just so you know, I am only at ease in a tropical shirt, 4 seasons I wear them. I purchased one from you last month, in an effort to win a contest for best shirt at an event I organized in the end of July.

Now this happens to be my favorite shirt, and was worn by me in the cancun airprot - the day before the hurricane, and seen WORLWIDE on MSNBC. They zoomed on me as i was at a ticket counter, calmly (as all in tropical shirts - true wearers that is - are) trying to get the hell out of there.

Many people saw me and your shirt on the news that night, in fact a few reconized me first - by the shirt!

You make great stuff, keep it up.

Peace
Russ

So, the Mad Gringo Go Slow shirt saved Russ' life. Yup.

Colima Dance Pareo on Beach Walks

Beachwalks

Need a little recharge, some food for thought, and enjoy dogs frolicking in the surf?

Check out Beach Walks with Rox.

Rox. Roxanne. Miss Darling. Roxy. Living her dream life come true in Hawaii. Or as we say, listening to her inner mad gringa.

Rox was kind enough to wear a Mad Gringo Pareo in episode #472. Check it out.
http://www.beachwalks.tv/2007/08/13/beach-walk-472-power-in-the-personal/

It's the Colima Dance Full Pareo and Rox makes it look much better than Mad Gringo did!

Mad Gringo is a big fan of Beach Walks because Rox is making it happen with intimacy and spirituality - keep forging your own path, Miss Darling!

We love the vlog below. (but we're a sucker for video since it killed the radio star)

Hawaiian shirts for bees

Beemansmall(Channel Ocho)

Mad Gringo gets bombarded by news of people not taking vacations, not wanting to take vacations and never having been on vacation all the time.

This is new.

It seems that we are overworking bees. By trucking them around to various places to aid agriculture (traveling from California to North Dakota then to Florida) we might be working these poor little buggers to death.

Mad Gringo has no idea what to do with this one. Even though it's a wide open market with billions of potential customers, his fingers are just too big to make such little shirts.

Tommy Bahama can figure that one out.

Naps Prevent Heart Attacks

Continuing with our theory that no one reads past headlines, Mad Gringo wants you to know that taking a nap each day can keep heart attacks at bay.

What makes MG so sure? The Greeks.

Joseph Shapiro from NPR took listeners to Avdou, Greece to visit with a culture that still has nap time from 2 to 5pm each day.

You can read/listen to his work here: Work Life Curbs Greece's Healthy Napping Custom

Street200 (image Joseph Shapiro)

Mad Gringo now has a Harvard researcher to quote who says nappers are significantly less likely to die from heart attacks. Dr. Dimitrios Trichopoulos.

"Taking a nap may be about as good for you as exercise, changing your diet, or taking pills."

There's some other stuff about more studies being needed blah, blah, blah - Mad Gringo has heard enough.

Naps are coming back.

Put Avdou, Greece on your list of places to visit. You'll find Ioannis Silikos there. Ioannis says of the siesta tradition in town: "We would like our lives to be more human-oriented. We want to be able to go to the beach during these hours from 2 to 5 p.m. We don't want to just have one day when we're free . . ."

Mad Gringo couldn't agree more.

I heard a rustlin' outside . . .

Mad Gringo heard a rustlin' in the bushes outside the lake house - grabbing my trusty instamatic I captured these shifty looking creatures digging through the trash looking for drink recipes.

Hawaiianshirtraccoons

Thanks to Mad Molly for sending these pics of Mad Bob and Mad Mike bumping around the lake house. They are sporting the Jungle Falls Hawaiian shirt and the extremely rare Olive Paddler Hawaiian shirt.

Here is a picture of them in their natural habitat - a parking lot by the auction barn - as they contemplate where their inner mad gringos will take them today.

Hawaiian Shirts Every Day

Sounds like Paradise, right?

Mad Gringo was just emailed a story about Gary Moses who listened to his inner mad gringo 19 years ago and set sail from Anapolis, MD to the shores of St. John in the US Virgin Islands. After time doing this or that, he started a liquor store with service - Mixology Warehouse.

Hawaiianshirtsmixology

Now his inner mad gringo is telling him to pick up and sail to his next adventure. So, in true MG fashion, he is having a contest to pick the new owner (the next Mad Gringo) of the Mixology Warehouse.

www.MyParadiseBusiness.com

You are simply an essay and $100 away from having a shot at living in paradise! Mad Gringo isn't the sharpest tack, but that's a pretty good ROI.

Just take a look at some of the things included:
- 2 ottomans
- 2001 Chevy S-10 pickup
- microwave

Plus a bunch of stuff set up to help you sell liquor to restaurants, businesseses and island residents.

Listen to his radio interview here: News Of St John

Here's your chance. You've skipped vacation all summer. You've traveled on Sunday night and stayed through Saturday at the Springfield Suites to save the company a few bucks. You bought Girl Scout cookies from every admin's daughter and Boy Scout raffle tickets to boot. You've worn neckties. Shudder.

Take a little time this afternoon - get to the library. (remember that place?) Check out Jimmy Buffett's "A Pirate Looks at 50", slap on the Foggy Notions Go Slow shirt and start the dream this weekend.

And when you win, let Mad Gringo know. We'll send you a Hawaiian shirt and visit in the off-season.

Go slow.

Tropical Shirts and Grievous, Mortal Sin

Mayoratienza

This is what happens when your inner Mad Gringo implores you to take a public office:

Secretary Lito Atienza hopes that his fashion sense would rub off on employees at the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

During the celebration of his 66th birthday Friday, Atienza said that he would continue to wear tropical shirts and he wished the department’s employees would also consider using tropical fabrics as their office uniform.

“It’s part of the inspiration probably that I’m giving. I’m happy. Because as you know I’ve always been promoting a tropical shirt, believing that we are a tropical nation,” Atienza, who donned his signature red floral polo shirt, said.

“I consider it a grievous, mortal sin to be wearing a necktie and a woolen suit in our country because they’re simply not appropriate. That’s why I’m happy in the DENR because I am able to wear my tropical shirts with more reason and I will continue to do so because I believe that everybody should be imbued with the same outlook,” he added.

(full story here, thanks to the Phillipine Star)

First, no Mad Gringo did not pay to have the honorable Mr. Atienza take such an extreme stance on neckties and woolen suits.

Second, the answer is "yes", Mad Gringo is considering a move to the Phillipines and chucking it all to join the DENR.

Third, I think we've found the next nominee for the prestigious Go Slow Prize. Lito Atienza would make a excellent, albeit slightly radical, Go Slow Laureate.

Remember, go slow out there.

Hmm. . .is it too late to re-consider?

Mad Gringo has been tough on neckties.

Leave it to the Japanese to make Mad Gringo give pause. This may be the only necktie that will look good with a Hawaiian shirt.

You HAVE to click on this and peek at the pictures. The USB powered fan necktie.

Tropicalshirtnecktie

BabelFish translated the site to this classic text:

"This heat which continues still. Especially, because the white-collar worker has done the necktie, the wind being difficult to enter in the body, all the more it is hot, it is, don't you think?"

It has to be wrong to laugh this hard!

"The heat which continues still". . .it's almost poetic.

Go slow.
